Department of Consumer Protection Issues Reminder About Daylight Saving Time and Bar Hours
The Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) issued a reminder this week explaining how the end of daylight saving time will affect bars and restaurants across the state.
When clocks roll back from 2:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. on Sunday morning, establishments are not permitted to stay open for an extra hour.
“With Halloween celebrations running right into the time change, we know people will be tempted to keep the night going,” said DCP Commissioner Bryan T. Cafferelli. “But no matter how great your costume is, there are no exceptions. Go home, get that extra hour of sleep, and you’ll thank us in the morning.”
Cafferelli added that the fall time change is a good opportunity to be responsible: “Call a cab, a rideshare, or your designated driver — but don’t assume bars will stay open later.”
According to state liquor laws, once the clocks are turned back, no additional sales, service, or consumption of alcoholis allowed in bars or restaurants.
For questions or to file a complaint regarding a liquor permit holder in Connecticut, residents can contact the Liquor Control Division by emailing dcp.liquorcontrol@ct.gov, calling (860) 713-6210, or filing an online complaint at portal.ct.gov/liquorcomplaints.
