Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray has been ruled out for Sunday’s matchup against the Indianapolis Colts due to a foot injury. The team officially listed Murray as inactive after he missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday, returning only in a limited capacity on Friday. Despite that minor progress, the Cardinals will err on the side of caution and sit their star quarterback.

Murray sustained the injury during Arizona’s Week 5 loss to the Tennessee Titans and has been dealing with discomfort throughout the week. With Murray sidelined, veteran Jacoby Brissett will get the start under center. Brissett’s last start came more than a year ago — on October 6, 2024, while playing for the New England Patriots — when he completed 18 of 34 passes for 160 yards in a 15–10 loss to the Miami Dolphins.

The Cardinals enter Week 6 looking to rebound from a stunning collapse against Tennessee, where they blew a 21–3 lead — including a 15-point advantage in the fourth quarter. After the game, Murray expressed frustration and disbelief.

“I don’t even know what to think about that,” Murray said. “That’s ‘How to Lose a Game 101.’ It was crazy.”

Before the injury, Murray had been performing efficiently, completing 68.3% of his passes for 962 yards, six touchdowns, and three interceptions, while also rushing for 173 yards and a score.

Murray’s absence compounds Arizona’s ongoing backfield woes. The Cardinals already lost starting running back James Conner for the season in Week 3 with an ankle injury, and Trey Benson landed on injured reserve the following week. In their absence, Michael Carter has taken on the primary rushing duties — a role he’s expected to continue on Sunday against Indianapolis.
