He passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday following a courageous battle with cancer, the band announced in a social media statement. His wife, Jennifer, and other family members were at his side.

Arnold was a founding member of 3 Doors Down, serving as the band’s lead vocalist and original drummer. The group rose to prominence in the early 2000s with a string of chart-topping hits, including “Here Without You,” “It’s Not My Time,” and “Kryptonite” — a song Arnold famously wrote when he was just 15 years old.

In a heartfelt tribute, the band said Arnold’s music extended far beyond the stage, creating moments of connection, joy, faith, and shared experience that will endure long after his performances.

He was remembered not only as a talented musician, but also as a devoted husband, known for his kindness, humor, generosity, and unwavering faith.

“Those closest to him will remember his warmth, humility, and deep love for his family and friends,” the tribute continued. “He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.”

Tributes and condolences quickly poured in from across the music world. Singer Chris Daughtry wrote, “Sending my love to the Arnold family. Rest easy, brother. You will be missed.” Creed also shared a message of support, sending love to Arnold’s family and the entire 3 Doors Down community. Black Stone Cherry described him as a “true class act” who supported them even before they found success.

Arnold revealed in May that he had been diagnosed with stage 4 kidney cancer. In an Instagram video, he shared that doctors had identified clear cell renal carcinoma that had spread to his lungs, prompting the band to cancel its tour.

“I’d love for you to lift me up in prayer every chance you get,” Arnold said at the time. “It’s time for me to go listen to ‘Not My Time’ a little bit.”

Arnold formed 3 Doors Down in 1996 in Escatawpa, Mississippi, alongside Matt Roberts and Todd Harrell. The band achieved national fame in 2000 when “Kryptonite” climbed to No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, launching a career that would leave a lasting mark on rock music.
