Arch Manning couldn't have asked for a better start to what many expect will be a defining season in his college football career.

The Texas quarterback, widely considered the early favorite to become the No. 1 overall pick in the 2027 NFL Draft, delivered a commanding performance Saturday as the Longhorns overwhelmed Texas State in a one-sided victory.

Manning looked comfortable from the opening drive, completing 20 of his 27 pass attempts for 305 yards and four touchdown passes. Although he threw one interception, it did little to slow Texas' offensive momentum. With the Longhorns comfortably ahead 42-7 midway through the third quarter, Manning's day was done as the coaching staff turned to the backups.

The sophomore quarterback displayed the poise, accuracy and confidence that have fueled growing expectations surrounding his future. He spread the ball efficiently, made quick decisions under center and consistently connected with his receivers for explosive plays, giving fans a glimpse of why many scouts already view him as one of the nation's premier quarterback prospects.

Still, the matchup offered little resistance.

Texas entered the game as a heavy favorite against a Texas State program that competes in the Sun Belt Conference. While the Bobcats battled throughout the afternoon, they struggled to contain the Longhorns' high-powered offense and were overmatched by one of the deepest and most talented rosters in college football.

For Manning, it was an ideal opportunity to shake off any offseason rust and build confidence before the competition intensifies.

The real measuring stick arrives next weekend.

Texas will host defending No. 1 Ohio State in what is already being billed as one of the biggest games of the college football season—and potentially one of the defining moments in Manning's young career.

The showdown carries extra significance after last season's defensive battle in Columbus, where Texas fell 14-7 and Manning struggled to generate consistent offense against the Buckeyes' elite defense.

This time, however, the circumstances are very different.

The game will be played in Austin, where the Longhorns will enjoy home-field advantage, and Manning enters the matchup with another year of experience, greater command of the offense and significantly higher expectations.

With NFL scouts expected to closely monitor every throw, the nationally televised clash could become the biggest stage yet for Manning to strengthen his case as college football's top quarterback—and perhaps the future No. 1 overall pick.

If Saturday's performance was the warm-up, next week's showdown against Ohio State will be the first true test of whether Arch Manning is ready to live up to the enormous expectations surrounding his name.
