Apple Introduces the New iPhone Air: Breakthrough Design, Pro Performance, and Stunning Cameras
CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA — Apple today announced the iPhone Air, the thinnest iPhone ever, combining professional-level performance with an elegant, lightweight design. Built from grade 5 titanium, the new model delivers both strength and sophistication, and debuts Ceramic Shield 2 on the front and back, offering up to 3x better scratch resistance and 4x better drop protection.
At just 5.6 mm thin, iPhone Air ushers in a new era of design. Its precisely milled rear plateau houses the cameras, speaker, and Apple silicon, freeing up more internal space to maximize battery capacity — ensuring all-day battery life.
The 6.5-inch Super Retina XDR display features ProMotion with refresh rates up to 120Hz, and an incredible 3000 nits peak outdoor brightness, the highest ever on iPhone, for vibrant visuals even under direct sunlight.
Powering the iPhone Air is a trio of Apple-designed chips — A19 Pro, N1, and C1X — delivering the fastest CPU in any smartphone, next-generation mobile gaming with a 5-core GPU, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 support, plus Apple’s most efficient cellular modem yet. A redesigned internal architecture ensures both extreme performance and remarkable efficiency.
For photography, iPhone Air debuts the 18MP Center Stage front camera, the first square sensor on iPhone, allowing portrait or landscape selfies without rotating the device. It also supports ultra-stabilized 4K HDR video and the new Dual Capture mode, recording simultaneously from front and rear cameras.
On the back, the new 48MP Fusion camera system delivers the equivalent of four lenses in one. It supports 24mm, 28mm, and 35mm focal lengths, plus a 2x Telephoto option with an enhanced Photonic Engine for lifelike detail and color, even in low light.
iPhone Air also introduces an eSIM-only design, eliminating the physical SIM card for a slimmer build, while offering greater convenience, enhanced security, and global compatibility with over 500 carriers.
Shipping with iOS 26, iPhone Air includes the new Liquid Glass design and Apple Intelligence, featuring live translation for text and audio, powerful visual intelligence to act on what’s on your screen, and advanced privacy and productivity tools.
Available in four finishes — space black, cloud white, light gold, and sky blue — iPhone Air will be available for pre-order starting September 12, with launch on September 19.
John Ternus, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Engineering, said:
“iPhone Air is so thin and light it feels almost unreal in your hand. This combination of pro performance, advanced cameras, and long-lasting battery life was only made possible through Apple innovation and the power of Apple silicon. It truly feels like holding the future.”
