Incident at University of Arkansas was a False Alarm, Police Confirm

This Monday afternoon at approximately 12:30 PM, the Fayetteville Police Department was called to assist the University of Arkansas Police Department following a report of an active shooter at the David W. Mullins Library on the university campus.

Multiple agencies responded to the call. After the initial incident, multiple calls reported similar situations at different locations across the university. So far, there is no confirmation of gunshots, injuries, suspects, or arrests.

In response to the event, the Neighborhood Walmart on MLK Boulevard was placed on lockdown, according to the store.

Fayetteville Public Schools were briefly under a shelter-in-place order, but it has since been lifted. Farmington Public Schools remained under shelter-in-place as a precaution but stated there is no threat to students or staff. All activities continue as normal inside the classrooms.

A text alert was sent to students around noon, informing them of the possible active shooter situation and advising them to avoid the area around Mullins Library.

Brock Boddie, a university student, reported that he was on the third floor of the library when he heard yelling and movement. Shortly after, he received the alert from the institution. He and other students were escorted to an adjacent building, where they witnessed armed police officers outside ordering an evacuation.

The University of Arkansas Police and the Fayetteville Police Department remain on the scene, conducting sweeps and securing the area. All official updates are being centralized and released by the two departments.
