Air Canada and Collins Aerospace Showcase Next-Generation Cabin for A321XLR

The 2026 Aircraft Interiors Expo (AIX) has officially opened in Hamburg, Germany, and Collins Aerospace is already drawing significant attention. The company, a subsidiary of RTX, has announced a major partnership with Air Canada to supply both business and economy class seating for the airline’s upcoming fleet of Airbus A321XLR aircraft.

Bringing Widebody Comfort to a Narrowbody Aircraft

Air Canada has selected Collins Aerospace’s Aurora suites for its premium business class offering. Designed as lie-flat seats, these suites aim to deliver the level of comfort typically associated with long-haul widebody aircraft — but within the more compact single-aisle A321XLR.

The aircraft will feature 14 business class suites arranged in a two-abreast configuration, with each seat angled slightly away from the window to enhance privacy. The cabin design blends comfort and sophistication, incorporating warm tones, ambient lighting, and premium materials such as wood, stone, and bronze accents.

According to Collins Aerospace, the Aurora suite is engineered to strike a balance between privacy and openness, creating a refined and comfortable environment for long-distance travel.

Designed Specifically for the A321XLR

One of the main challenges with narrowbody aircraft on long-haul routes has been maintaining passenger comfort. To address this, the Aurora suites were custom-built to fit the exact dimensions of the A321XLR.

This tailored approach allows for optimized cabin space, including an additional row of premium seating and increased galley capacity to support long-haul service needs. The result is a layout that maximizes both comfort and efficiency, setting a new benchmark for narrowbody travel.

Enhanced Economy Experience

Beyond business class, Air Canada’s A321XLR will feature a 168-seat economy cabin equipped with Collins’ Meridian+seats. These seats incorporate design elements inspired by widebody aircraft, offering improved personal space for passengers — particularly around the hips, knees, and elbows.

Passengers can also expect upgraded seatback interfaces, enhancing the overall in-flight experience.

Fleet Expansion and Future Routes

Air Canada currently has 30 Airbus A321XLR aircraft on order, an increase from its initial commitment of 26 units in 2022. The first aircraft completed its maiden test flight in early 2026 in Hamburg.

The airline plans to initially deploy the A321XLR on domestic routes, including Montréal to Calgary, before expanding to international destinations across Europe and the United States. With its extended range and improved cabin design, the aircraft is expected to play a key role in Air Canada’s future network strategy.
