Aaron Rodgers will sit out Sunday’s game for the Pittsburgh Steelers, who have named Mason Rudolph as their starting quarterback against the Chicago Bears.
In a pregame interview with CBS, coach Mike Tomlin said Rodgers “worked extremely hard” to try to play, but that holding him out was the most sensible decision for the team.
“He fought all week,” Tomlin said. “But this is the prudent move for us. Mason will start; he took most of the reps throughout the week.”
Rodgers had been listed as questionable due to a fractured left wrist. The four-time MVP was a limited participant in Thursday’s and Friday’s practices after missing Wednesday’s session.
He arrived at Soldier Field shortly before 9 a.m. Sunday and walked the field wearing a wrist stabilizer.
Rudolph will be backed up by Will Howard, a 2025 sixth-round pick who was activated from injured reserve a week ago.
Rudolph last started in Week 17 a year ago for the Tennessee Titans, finishing with a 1–4 record. He also started four games for the Steelers in 2023, including three straight wins that secured the team’s playoff berth.
