On Friday, Hamas announced it had agreed to release all Israeli hostages — both living and deceased — as part of President Donald J. Trump’s Gaza peace proposal.

According to a statement released by the group and shared directly by the president on Truth Social, Hamas leaders also indicated they were prepared to enter mediated negotiations to finalize the deal.

“Based on the statement just issued by Hamas, I believe they are ready for lasting PEACE,” Trump wrote. “Israel must immediately stop the bombing of Gaza so that we can get the hostages out safely and quickly. We are already in discussions on the details to be worked out. This is not just about Gaza, this is about long-sought PEACE in the Middle East.”

The announcement came only hours after Trump issued a public warning to Hamas, declaring its leaders would be “hunted down and eliminated” if the hostages were not released by Sunday night.

Hamas said the decision followed extensive internal consultations, along with discussions with Palestinian factions, mediators, and international partners, in order to take a “responsible position” regarding Trump’s plan.

Leaders expressed gratitude for the American president’s efforts to end the war and stated they would hand over administration of the Gaza Strip to an independent Palestinian body.

Trump’s 20-point peace plan calls for an end to Israel’s military operations, the disarmament of Hamas, and the reconstruction of Gaza under Palestinian governance supervised by an international coalition led by the United States.

While the Hamas statement did not explicitly address disarmament, the group did agree to return all 46 hostages. Israel has not yet commented officially.
